Yorkshire Wedding Photographer at the grand hotel, edinburgh during covid-19
Tizi & Franz
2020 continues to be a strange year and we are all taking what little comforts we can to help us through! One of those for me was an Italian destination wedding in Edinburgh in early September. The wedding had already been postponed once due to COVID-19 and due to the restrictions on gatherings we were only able to have a small intimate wedding with a minimal wedding breakfast and no reception. But, having worked with the COVID restrictions the wedding took place on The Penthouse balcony of The Grand Hotel, Edinburgh with a stunning view of the city. Because the ceremony was outside it also meant masks were not mandatory and a special mention must be made to Liz, the officiator, who took everything in her stride from the COVID restrictions to the language barrier for some of the guests!
Tizi and Franz were amazing throughout the day, their energy and exuberance was there for all to see! The family had come over from Italy that weekend and had been enjoying the unusually warm Scottish weather! Although on the day of the ceremony we did have to put up with quite a lot of wind!!
I spent the morning with the groom, Franz, and his ‘Best-Man’, Alessia. Tizzi was in a smaller room which meant COVID restrictions reduced the number of people in the room – hair and make-up obviously took precedence – but Franz and Alessia got ready in the Bridal Suit with its magnificent open-plan design (allowing social distancing). I then popped into Tizi’s room after everyone had finished to get a few photos of her finishing touches.
Up in The Penthouse the string quartet entertained the guests. And we took some photos with the city as our backdrop. When it was time for Tizi to arrive, she did so arm in arm with her father. Her two young nephews had a sneak peak of them through the door as they arrived creating a beautiful little moment in time. A joyous, if windy, ceremony ensued.
The Wedding Breakfast took place but everyone was assigned to their seats and had to stay in them. The speeches also could not take place, unfortunately. But we did managed to cut the beautiful cake after the meal. And once again, laughter ensued as Tizi ‘fed’ Franz some of their cake.
Thank you to Tizi & Franz for inviting me into their world and getting to share this experience with them and their family.
